“Yes, We Can Do That!”

How do you normally spend your summer?

Happy June everyone! I hope the weather has been warming up where you are because I sure have been enjoying the beautiful sunshine here in Georiga! We also just came from a long holiday weekend! Summers in Georgia are definitely HOT, don’t get me wrong, but I think I’m getting used to them. I was born in May and I typically enjoy warmer weather over colder. I also believe people are in better moods when the sun is shining rather than when it’s not. I know I like to be outside or social when the weather is nice! I definitely do not enjoy being in an office all day watching the sun shine. Like a little kid — “mommy, can I please play outside?!” Lol!

So what do you normally do when the weather starts to warm up and the kiddos are out of school?! I know family vacation to see grandparents usually make it on the list, but here are a few convenient, even last-minute ideas for fun family summer activities!

Host A Backyard Olympics!

One of my friends just celebrated her 16-year-old son’s birthday. She kept it cost-efficient but got creative to make it fun! They played games in the backyard such as cornhole, spikeball, and frisbee! That’s what gave me the idea for backyard Olympics. Gather some of the kids’ friends (or shoot even the adult friends!), pick some stations with some games like a small obstacle course, relays, bucket tosses, flip cup or beer pong, tug of war, or whatever you come up with! Get some matching t-shirts for the team, keep score, have funny gifts for the winners, and have a blast!

Take An Impromptu Beach Trip!

Most of us probably have an annual beach trip planned with the family, the girls, or our boo thang, but I want us to think about this a little differently. All you need is 48 hours, your beach towel, and a clean place to stay. Most beaches in the South are less than 6 hours away, so you and your people can hop in a car in the morning, get to the beach by the afternoon, enjoy the sun and nighttime activities, get some rest in a nearby hotel, and hit the road the next afternoon! And if you live a little further than that away from a beach, no need to try to hop on a plane — pack up the car with some snacks and good jams, and make some fun pitstops along the way like a museum or a cool ice cream parlor. We can do the beach justice in just one day. Build some sandcastles, relax with a margarita, and add some new photos to the family photo album! 🙂

Find A Drive-In Movie Theater!

I don’t know about you, but I feel like a lot of big movies come out in the summer or late fall/winter. (I’m waiting for the new Avatar movie to come out in December!). But with the weather being warmer, a nice drive-in movie theater would be so much fun! You can even make a day out of it — ride bikes or walk in the park during the day, then stock up on your favorite snacks (and beverages) and find the closest drive-in movie theater near you! And if there isn’t one close enough to where you live, make a drive-in theater in your very own backyard! A lot of stores are selling projectors and screens for affordable prices, and you can pick your favorite movie and watch it together on a blanket under the stars!

Writing this post has made me super excited for the summertime! These are just a few ideas, but we can always throw in activities like miniature golf, swimming, bike rides, hiking, amusement and water parks, cross-country road trips, outdoor or indoor camping, building tree houses and forts, the list can go on and on! Whatever the kiddos ask to do, hopefully, you can respond with “yes, we can do that!”

I would love to hear what you have planned this summer or what spontaneous activity you can see yourself doing when you have a free weekend! Let me know in the comments!

Happy Summer!
