“Fun Fact: I Have 4 Brothers”
What’s a “small” thing that brings you much joy?
Have you ever seen the movie Four Brothers? It’s really good and stars Mark Wahlberg, Tyrese Gibson, André 3000, and Garrett Hedlund. If you have any free time coming up, give it a watch!
Some of my readers probably know that I have 4 brothers. Yep, that’s right, I have 4 biological brothers and 0 biological sisters! But, I didn’t grow up being the “only girl” for a very long time. When we lived in New York, I was the only girl in my household besides my mom. But then when my mom, brothers, and I made our way to Pennsylvania, I was no longer the “only girl.” I moved to Pennsylvania and moved in my Grandpa’s house, which is the same house my mother and her sisters grew up in! I attended middle and high school living with my cousins, Aunt, and Grandpa. My 2 other aunts and girl cousins lived right next door or right up the street. Those cousins became the sisters I never had! We are so close and I can call on them for anything, and they’re definitely the people I would want with me when I experience big life-changing moments!
In addition to being blessed to call my cousins my sisters, I have gained more sisters in the past few months! Joining Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated has been a longtime dream of mine and it finally came to pass in December 2021. Becoming a member of this illustrious organization has also given me a lifetime line of sisters. I joined this sorority in December 2021 along with 27 new members in my Chapter as well as hundreds of new members across the world! This past weekend many of us gathered in Atlanta for the 69th South Atlantic Regional Conference (SARC). It was my very first regional conference and I had a great time! 69SARC owes me nothing!
I bonded with my new line sisters, met new sorors, and learned more about the organization. We attended a dope step show and got all glammed up for a dinner/gala. It was AKAmazing! Fun fact, I have 4 brothers, but now have new sisters that will last a lifetime! I am so glad to be part of this sisterhood and am looking forward to more opportunities to bond with my new sisters! Oh, this Sunday many of us are going to my church together and then grabbing brunch after! Skee-weeeee!
Who in your life have you had the opportunity to call your sister or brother? Doesn’t that feel good?! I definitely don’t take those “small” things for granted because they bring me so much joy!
“Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her, and happy are all who retain her.” — Proverbs 3:17 & 18, NKJV.
