“Stay Fueled Up, Even on the Go! – Daniel Fast Meals, Pt. 2”

How do you approach your goals when time isn’t on your side?

The Daniel Fast is about focusing on what is sustainable and fulfilling. Like God’s Word. That’s why there is a scripture for each day of the fast. It’s important to shift our mindset because we want to be pleasing to God. We need to be strong enough to resist the devil’s temptations. We strive to be more like Jesus. Jesus fasted for 40 days as He prepared for His ministry. We can fast for 21 days as we prepare for all that God has in store for us!

How have the last 2 weeks been for you? Are you learning more about yourself and your relationship with God? What has He revealed to you so far? What scripture really carried you through during your times of fasting? Is your mind, body, and soul feeling fulfilled?!

For me, it’s been really eye-opening and gratifying. First of all, I’m incredibly proud of myself at the level of discipline I’ve exhibited during the fast thus far! When I tell you I have been tempted many times and fought crazy cravings, but I stayed the course! It may have only been 2 weeks, but God doesn’t need a significant amount of time to work His miracles and to show up in your life. Mark 1:40-43 shows just how quickly God can work on our behalf!

A man with leprosy came to Him and begged Him on his knees, “If you are willing, you can make me clean.” Jesus was indignant. He reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” He said. “Be clean!” Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cleansed.

Why wouldn’t God work that same way in our lives? Our obedience, faith, and discipline to His commands will bring us closer to Him. We can similarly fall to our knees like the man with leprosy, and pray to God to heal, bless, promote, strengthen, deliver, humble, and free us. So as we approach the last week of this fast, let’s not grow weary and let’s keep pushing forward!

I wasn’t trying to write a mini sermon haha, but I had to just share what was on my heart. God has been so good!

What I really want to share in this post are ways we can fuel our minds, bodies, and spirits with Daniel Fast-appropriate meals on the go! Although we can train our minds to achieve anything we want in life, we still have to be realistic. There might be a day when your work meetings run late and you won’t make it home in time to bake a flaky piece of fish or sauté some fresh vegetables. And that’s okay! You’re in luck! I got you!

Here are some restaurants that offer healthy but quick Daniel Fast meal options:

Chipotle
• Build yourself a bowl with sofritas (tofu-based but SO good!), brown rice, black or pinto beans, fajita veggies, and guacamole. You can even build a salad with similar toppings.

Chipotle’s Plant-Powered Lifestyle Bowls

CAVA
• Their greens + grains bowl is a good and hearty option. You can add falafel, roasted veggies, lentils, hummus, harissa, tahini, or avocado. See if your location offers salmon!

Panera Bread
• Ask for a lettuce base and try their tuna salad. Or you can get a Mediterranean bowl with salmon. The Mediterranean bowl includes cilantro lime brown rice and quinoa, arugula, grape tomatoes, Kalamata olives, cucumbers, hummus, and lemon tahini dressing.

Taco Bell/Burger King
• I bet you weren’t expecting to see one of these chains on the list!
• At Taco Bell, you can order a bean burrito without cheese and load it with veggies and guac. Or you can order one of their Power Bowls with black beans, rice, guac, pico, lettuce, and tomatoes.
• We know Burger King has the Impossible Whopper, which is Daniel Fast-appropriate if you skip out on the bun, cheese, and mayo! Even though potatoes are vegetables, NO, you should not order a side of fries!

Poké Restaurants (my personal FAVE)
• If you like sushi, then you’ll love poké bowls. Athens has an amazing poké spot, Ahi Hibachi & Poké, downtown on East Clayton Street. I’ve been here twice already since we started this fast! I ordered a poké bowl with brown rice, salmon (they have Ahi tuna, shrimp, and tofu too), and toppings like corn, jalapenos, and avocado. They have a ton of other topping options, and you can get a salad base if you don’t want brown rice!
• Be sure to avoid the sauces like eel sauce and teriyaki. Plain soy sauce or coconut aminos are alright!

As believers, we are resourceful. We don’t toss our creativity out the window just because we’re fasting. We want God to show up in our lives in ways He might not have in the past, and we want to enjoy what we are consuming as we wait. I hope these options help supplement the meals you’ve been making at home. Maybe you’ll choose to continue these eating habits well beyond the 21 days!

We are on this journey together. Thank you for reading! Please subscribe and be the first to know of future posts!

“Then he continued, ‘Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them.” Daniel 10:12, NIV.
