“They’re Watching!”
What kind of security system do you use?
When was the last time you’ve been to a supermarket like Wal-Mart? When you went, do you recall seeing those large black round balls attached to the ceiling? Ever wonder what they were? I know as a kid I had no idea what they were, but because we learn more when we get older, I now know that those large, black, round balls attached to the ceiling of Wal-Mart are security cameras!
As a criminal defense attorney, I think one of my number one FREE pieces of advice is (yes, I said free, which lawyers are NOT in the business of giving out free legal advice): DON’T SHOPLIFT! Or should I clarify and say, DON’T SHOPLIFT IN STORES WITH LARGE BLACK ROUND BALLS ATTACHED TO THE CEILING? Yall would be so surprised at how many cases I have come across where someone is caught on camera *allegedly* taking items from a store without paying. The number is unreal and I can’t do much but just shake my head.
Now, the security camera technology is getting even better! And large stores such as Wal-Mart, Target, and even Belk must invest some major moolah into their security system because their camera quality is GREAT! And, get this, they even have employees whose role, job, and day-to-day duties include sitting at a computer and reviewing security camera footage ALL … DAY… ! Sometimes those employees will take turns getting up from behind the computer to go walk around the store acting like they’re doing something productive when in reality they are watching to see if you place an item into your purse, underneath your baby’s car seat, or in the front of your pants. (This post is going to refrain from the topic of the race, gender, and socioeconomic status of those who are monitored more closely for allegations of shoplifting in stores).
When these kinds of cases come across my desk, and after I review the security footage myself, I never really seem to think about who manufactures the security technology, who provides and installs that technology, or who even designs the camera or the domes protecting the camera lenses! I am sure businesses such as Criterion Technology Inc. provide thousands of products to thousands of customers all the time.

Did you ever stare up at those large black round balls attached to the ceiling of supermarkets? Now I’m thinking about all of the various styles of security cameras. Not only do the grocery and department stores have them, but we know our places of employment and schools have them, jails (of course), and even our homes. Oh, and we can’t forget about the little tiny security cameras that allow us to monitor our pets and toss them treats when we’re not at home! The technology and equipment for these cameras and security systems just keep advancing! We don’t even have to go through a company to get the devices and technology installed in our homes anymore — we can just buy Ring cameras, attached them to our front doors ourselves, and download the app on our phone! (Have yall ever seen the quality of the Ring camera?! *mind blown*!)
Criterion Technology, Inc. has been around since I was born! They specialize in injection molding in the USA and take pride in their work. Their headquarters are right here in Georgia, and they serve many industries around the nation. If you’re ever in the market for security cameras, the technology, or even the optical dome, keep this in mind: “The best camera or optical sensor is only as good as the dome that covers it.” Protect yourself, protect your home, and protect your cameras!
I will end this post with another piece of free advice: REMEMBER, THEY’RE WATCHING! 🙂
